Indian-American astronaut **Sunita Williams**, one of NASA’s most celebrated space explorers, has always carried her Indian heritage with pride, even in the vastness of space. During an interaction, when asked **“How does India look from space?”**, her response was as poetic as it was profound—a beautiful reflection of her emotional connection to her roots and the breathtaking view from orbit.

A Glimpse of India from Above**

Williams, who has spent over **322 days in space** across two missions, described seeing India from the International Space Station (ISS) as an **“amazing and emotional”** experience. She highlighted how the country’s diverse landscapes—from the **snow-capped Himalayas** to the **long coastlines** and the **vast Thar Desert**—stand out distinctly from space.

One of the most striking sights, she noted, was the **glowing outline of India at night**, with clusters of city lights marking its bustling urban centers. She particularly mentioned the **northern plains and the Ganges River**, which are visible as a vibrant, life-sustaining network from orbit.

"It’s Like a Beautiful Painting"**

In her characteristic warm and humble style, Williams compared the view to **“a beautiful painting”**, where the colors of India’s terrain blend seamlessly into one another. She also spoke about the emotional impact of seeing the subcontinent from space, saying:

*“You can see the entire country in one glance—the mountains, the rivers, the cities. It makes you realize how connected everything is.”*

Her words resonated deeply with Indians worldwide, reinforcing the sense of pride in the nation’s natural beauty and cultural richness.

A Symbol of Inspiration for India**

Sunita Williams, whose father is of **Indian descent (from Gujarat)**, has always been a role model for aspiring astronauts in India. Her journey from a small-town girl in the US to a record-breaking space explorer has inspired millions, especially young girls dreaming of careers in science and space.

Her reflections on seeing India from space also highlight the **growing connection between India and global space exploration**. With ISRO’s rising achievements—like the **Chandrayaan-3 moon landing** and **Gaganyaan mission**—Williams’ perspective bridges the gap between India’s space ambitions and the international space community.
